"SalesManagement Solutions is a growing international software firm focused on
sales excellence. One of the initial challenges for any start-up company is sharing
information via the internet for sales presentations and online training for partners
and customers. When we started US operations 1 year ago, we selected a 5 seat license
with Placeware. This was a hosted solution with a monthly per seat cost. There were
additional hourly fees if more than 5 seats were in use. We typically had 12-18 online
training attendees for a 1-2 hour online training session several times a month. The
attendees would be in the UK to Atlanta to NY to Orlando to Dallas to SF to LA and
anywhere in between. While Placeware worked fine, the hosted per seat, with overage
costs, was well in excess of plan and budget. It was expensive. In August 2003 we
contracted with Linktivity to replace the hosted 5 seat contract with an in-house
20 seat Web Conferencing license that we installed on our server farm in Kentucky. No ASP
model. We owned the tool, time utilization, and resulting data. The ROI was 1 quarter.
